Using a cloud rendering farm can have a dramatic effect on optimising pipelines and workflows within your 3D projects. They can help when you have tight deadlines to meet, save huge investments on building your own render farm and can also enable the rendering of huge projects away from your main workstation. You can take long render times that would take hours on your single workstation into minutes when rendering across many machines within the cloud.

However, it can be very difficult managing assets and uploads, that can, if not done correctly, create a whole range of problems.  For example, it can be so easy to forget a texture/asset when sending final drafts to render, by doing this you run the risk of rendering and paying for an incorrect render. That being said, quite a lot of cloud-based companies now provide free test frames for checking before submission. This can be difficult with single frames.

There are many supported software’s within cloud rendering some of which are 3Dsmax, Maya and C4D. To confirm your files can be rendered through the cloud look at the desired render farms supported section, ours can be found here. Another thing to take note of is your plug-ins, if you are using a plug-in with your file this will need to be confirmed also with the cloud rendering farm.

As mentioned previously this saves huge amounts of time, meaning that each frame can be optimised for quality rather than speed. Your file can then be leveraged in cross-platform environments, whether the artist is at home or on-site with their laptop and even when the artist only has one license for their main render machine.
